One of Atteris’ company values is to “participate in the community as a responsible corporate citizen”. A recent initiative includes support for the Engineers Australia EngTalk Program. EngTalk is a high school outreach program initiated by Atteris Business Manager Allison Selman in 2015. Powered by the energy of enthusiastic professionals from all engineering industries, EngTalk aims to reach 50 schools in 2016 and is being initiated in the Albany and Geraldton regional areas.
The program aims at engaging with high school students to share information and experience on the engineering profession, as well as potential career opportunities. The program has a number of facets including presentations by engineers, in-class engineering projects, classroom resources, competitions and support to other mentoring programs and STEM events such as expos, science fairs and university groups. A big focus is to support schools from lower socio-economic backgrounds, who often lack access to such resources. There has been overwhelming positive feedback from all participants to date.
For more information contact Allison Selman (Program Coordinator) at Atteris or Nataleigh Short (School Program Coordinator) at the Engineers Australia WA Division Office.
Allison will also be speaking at the SkillsWest Expo on 13 August at 1100. She will be available at the Interactive Engineering Zone between 1130 – 1300. See event link below:
